Committees

The Official Board and Executive.
The Official Board meets approximately 8 times a year, and is responsible for all the larger decisions that affect the way St. John’s operates. In this, it is aided by the Executive, a small group of of selected board members that discusses and decides on smaller items that come up; they also meet approximately 8 times a year. The Executive reports back to the Official Board, brings items to the Board’s attention and makes recommendations if necessary.

The Committee of Stewards.
The Committee of Stewards has oversight of the stewardship of the resources of the congregation: its finances and property, its fundraising and stewardship education. These are the Stewards of the congregation, who share with the congregation their gift of faithful and prayerful management of our resources. The Stewards meet monthly.

Ministry & Personnel Committee.

Christian Development Committee.
Our members coordinate educational opportunities for the children, youth, families and adults of the congregation.

Children: Sunday School remains the primary focus of the CD Committee for the children of our congregation aged 4 to Grade 6. We have many volunteer teachers who support the Sunday School curriculum. Throughout the year, there is a Children’s Area provided at the back of the church for those children who like to have a quiet activity to focus their attention. If you need to leave the sanctuary with your child at any time, you are welcome in Room 15 where we have soft toys and chairs available.

Youth: We value the very important contributions provided by the youth of our congregation. Our youth participate in church services, GO project leadership weekends, sermon response discussions, confirmation classes, and interfaith social gatherings.

Families: There are many opportunities at St. John's for families to engage in community gatherings outside of Sunday morning. Our Christian Development Committee hosts potluck lunches, BBQs, movie nights, and other events throughout the year.

Adults: The Christian Development Committee currently provides resources for the St John’s Book Club and Bible Study groups. We are always open to suggestions for further learning opportunities.

p The Pastoral Care Team.
In response to the example and teachings of Jesus, we are called to be a caring presence.

The team is providing the ministry of visitation to people in the congregation who may not otherwise receive a number of regular visits or who may not be able to come to church. The team assists the minister with other routine visits both by telephone and in person.

There are some who knit shawls for our visitors to take to the sick or those unable to attend church. If you would like more information, you can download a pattern here and if you would be interested in being part of an active prayer shawl ministry, please contact one of the team members.

New members are always welcome! Support and resources are available.

Worship and Music Committee.
The Worship and Music Committee is comprised of 6-10 members. These members are to include the minister of the congregation, the director of music, 3 or more members of the congregation, 3 or more members of the session and a representative of the Senior Choir. The committee normally meets on the 4 th Tuesday of the month and other times as necessary.

The work of the Worship and Music Committee is dynamic, thoughtful, spiritual and creative in its efforts to provide for the gift of worship at St. John's United. New members are always welcome. The duties of the Worship and Music Committee include, but are not limited to:
